Who We Are

Family run for over 50 years

  1. A Knack For Fixing Things

When Dave Haab was seven, he and his cousin were on Long Island Sound in his grandfather’s boat. The water pump didn't work. When it seized up from heat, they splashed it with salt water until it cooled. First engine repair!
  2. First Steps

14-years-old, Dave and his father Bernie, put a 15 horse power outboard motor on a fishing boat. After that ride, Dave rummaged through a marina junk pile and came home with an old outboard motor. Together, they made a small workspace in the basement of their family farmhouse to tinker.
  3. On The Farm

Gram gave the Mercury Motors rep milk and cookies, literally sweetening the deal between Mercury and the Haabs. We've exclusively sold Mercury motors since.
  4. On The Road

Dave and Bernie traveled lake to lake with a demo boat: waterskiing, ski racing, trick skiing and selling motors. One Lake in particular stood out: Twin Lakes.
  5. A Full Time Job

Bernie and Dave sold the cows on their farm to focus on boats instead of working around the milking schedule.
  6. Hook, Line, And Sinker

Dave took over the lease at O’Hara’s Landing. At the time there was a restaurant, similar to today's, there were lockers and a bait shop, but not much else. The same year he met his wife Mickey, as he sold her gas for her boat. She never left.
  7. Our Extended Family

Mary, who still runs our restaurant and makes the best pancakes around, began work. Barry began in the boathouse. Fred has built a part of every building on site. We consider our employees family.
  8. Enlisting A New Generation

Collin, an award-winning mechanic, started in the shop where he still is today. Mickey and Dave's teenaged daughter worked summers in the restaurant while their son helped in the boathouse where an old milk tank from the farm now holds bait fish.
  9. Join Us On The Lake Today

At O'Hara's Landing a few things have changed over the past 50 years, but only to make your visits more enjoyable on a sunny summer day. You'll always see familiar faces and landscapes that never tire. Mary makes the same great pancakes, and you can still catch Dave in the shop to say hello every day but Wednesday. Use the timeline to take a walk back in time with us.
